  • Shopping Withdrawals

I haven’t written in a while because I’ve been in a foul mood lately.  No, it’s not the weather, it’s not the time of year, it’s not my family or my upcoming trip to Boston.  It’s shopping withdrawal.  Yes, I know how silly that sounds, but for those of you who snicker when you read this, I don’t think you understand just how much of an addiction I’m dealing with.
I’m not physically sick, but mentally I’ve been moderately depressed.  I lie in bed most nights, surfing the net and watching TV.  I’ve stopped talking to my sister as much as we used to (we used to call each other at least 4 times a day, now I’m down to call her 4 times a week).  It’s sad really.  I wish I could snap out of it.  Or as my sister suggested, channel my energy into something else, but there’s nothing else that I want to do.  I don’t have the energy to exercise.  I wish I did.
This is the bag I want:

It’s Valentino and costs $2,000.  Yes, I know that’s ridiculous.  But it’s beautiful and would make me happy.  Why?  I don’t know.  I just know that my life would be complete once I had it in my arms.

  • Dirty Bag

Do I have a nasty mind?  Am I the only one who sees what I see when I look at this bag?  And no, it’s not supposed to look like that particular body part.

  • Ashley in Wonderland

So the next two stops on my trip were in Freeport Bahamas (which I recommend to everyone!) and Nassau Bahamas.  Let me tell you right away, Nassau was quite a challenge for me.  The first thing I literally saw when I stepped off the ship was a big old David Yurman store.

You can’t see it in this picture, but trust me, it was there.  And guess what… the store in the Bahamas is allowed to haggle!!!  I wanted this necklace

and they were willing to take 20% off.  I mean, that would have made it $800,  but that’s still 20% that I never would have gotten in the U.S.  So I walked around Nassau for a little while with my mom and made the strong decision that I would NOT purchase the necklace (go ahead and applaud me right here).  I was so proud of myself!

The next stop was in Freeport.  Like I said, I recommend the Grand Bahama island to everyone.  It was much more laid back than the capital.  Also, I didn’t feel like all of the cab drivers were undressing me with their eyes.  Here’s a picture of a resort that I went to.  It was a little chilly that day, but I still my toes in the beautiful water.

There was even an Irish pub that I told Brian we would have to check out!

  • So much to say…

Ok, so by now, I think all of my loyal blog readers (all four of you) know that I went on vacation with my mom last week.  We went on a seven day cruise from Baltimore.  We stopped in Port Canaveral, Florida; Nassau Bahamas, and Freeport, Bahamas.  It’s going to take me awhile to get through the whole thing, so I’ll probably spend most of the week blogging about it.  First things first:  the cruise ship and Disney World.
The boat was MASSIVE!  Here’s a pic of when we first left:

Yes, there was a blizzard the day before, but we managed to get to Baltimore just fine.  The boat was decorated kind of like a Renaissance theme.  It was kind of pretty, but kind of innapropriate for children in some areas (IMO).  I mean, here’s an example of the kind of things that would be on the walls….

    Am I over reacting?

Anyway, moving onto Disney World.  My friend Kara and I went and it was freakin freezing!  We ended up buying matching Mickey Mouse shirts to wear around the park.

Can I just say, for the record, that Disney World kind of sucked?  I mean, last time I was there, I was 7 and it was AWESOME!  But this time, I walked around and was pretty disappointed.  The highlight was definitely getting a picture with Daisy Duck (love those heels!)   And the spinning tea cups.  Oh well, at least I did manage to get some cute gifts for my nephews.

  • Bahama Mama

I had a small set back today.  I bought two pairs of socks.  They were on clearance at Ann Taylor for $2.50 each.  Though in my circumstances, price doesn’t matter.  I shouldn’t have bought the socks, but I was looking for a fix.  I am back on the wagon though.
I leave for my cruise with my mama in three days.  The first stop is in Orlando, and the last two stops are in the Bahamas.  I’m pretty excited.  As you can imagine, a lot of thought has gone into my wardrobe.  I know what you’re thinking… “how can she be planning not to buy any stuff on vacation?”  Well the good news is, I hate touristy crap.  Can you picture me in a synthetic blend tie dye t-shirt with “Bahamas” in comic sans scrawled across the front?  I think not.
So anyway, hopefully the upcoming blizzard won’t affect my travel plans too much!  I’ll be sure to take tons of pictures and post them here when I get back… Miss me!

  • My name is Ashley, and I’m a shopaholic

Today is the first day of the rest of my life.  I’m going to tackle my shopping addiction.  My sister is going to help me.  Please be warned, I’m taking this very seriously.  Here’s my promise to myself:
    - I will not buy items to make myself happy.
    - I will not look to material things for my self worth.
    - I will pay down my credit card balance to $0 by March 2011.
    - I will not buy anything for the next two weeks.

I know what you’re thinking, why only two weeks?  Well I need to do this in baby steps.  My addiction is so extreme, that it doesn’t work when I say “I’m not buying anything ever again.”  Cold turkey would not work on me.  And here’s the biggest piece.  I’m going to publicly admit what my credit card balance is…

    $7,808.36

Yes, I know that’s shameful, but I also know I can pay this off by the time I’m 30, no problem.  I want to be debt free in my 30s!  Here’s to my first step!

    Goodbye old friend….

  • I’m lovin it!

I have a confession.  I like McDonald’s.  I always have.  I like their breakfast and their lunch menu.  I like their coffee, their iced coffee, and their milkshakes.  I like their french fries (fresh and hot!) and I like their cheeseburgers.  Does that make me lame?  Everyone seems  to think of McDonald’s as one of the worst fast food chains, but I would put them up there right underneath Popeye’s and Chick Fil-A.  So kill me!

What’s my favorite item on the McDonald’s menu you ask?  It’s a toss up between the bacon, egg and cheese biscuit, or a good old fashioned sausage biscuit.  Both incredibly fattening, but I love it!

  • Movie Industry: get your act together!

What’s up with the movies lately?  I thought they were making a turn for the better, but I was tricked!  I think they have just gotten better at making trailers that make the movie seem like it’s going to be good, but in reality, it’s the same crap that’s been coming out for the last 10 years.  Here are the last few movies I’ve seen:

    Avatar
Not really sure what all of the fuss is about.  I actually thought this movie was a little bit too long.  It took forever for the story to build up, and it was a bit predictable.  The characters all kind of fit into a neat stereotype and I was not really impressed.  If you can, wait for it to show up on TBS.

    Sherlock Holmes
Robert Downey Jr. is truly a gifted actor.  I’m just sad it took him awhile to get his act together after the drugs and stuff.   I can only imagine how much we must have missed out on as an audience.  But thank goodness he’s back!  I really enjoyed this film.  And forgive me ladies, I know what a scoundrel Jude Law is, but I still think he’s pretty hot, especially in “The Holiday”.  Yum!

    The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus
I admit, this movie isn’t really well known and in fact the only reason most people have heard of it is because it’s Heath Ledger’s last film.  He died during the filming and they had to use various actors to fill in his role (Johnny Depp, Jude Law *yay!*, and Colin Farell).  I think Colin did the best job, surprisingly.  But besides that, the film just kind of sucked.  It was strange in an “Alice in Wonderland” kind of way and to be honest, I’m not really into that kind of thing.  My husband and I have been debated back and forth of the last three weeks if the movie was good, or just weird and bad and we still haven’t come to a conclusion.  IMO- when it comes to this film, proceed with caution.

    Daybreakers
The ads make the film seem like it will be a different kind of vampire movie.  Not your usual slaying, star crossed lovers type of deal.  It was different from the average vampire flick, but I wouldn’t say that’s a good thing.  The story line was promising: most of the human population has been transformed into vampires and the human “food” is running low.  But then it kind of doesn’t develop too much after that.  Sadly, once again, I was disappointed.

    Legion
Once again, this movie seemed like it could be promising.  Slightly different then the average apocolyptic film.  Plus I haven’t seen Paul Bettany in anything since “The DaVinci Code” and he was all creepy and albino in that.  However, I was (wait for it…..) disappointed once again!  The problem with this movie was the little dialogue that was in the film had already been shown in all of the previews.  So I already knew what was going to happen, why it was happening and didn’t have a hard time figuring out what was going to happen.  Even if you haven’t seen the trailers, the movie sucks.

So I still have high hopes for “Wolfman” (even though Benecio Del Toro freaks me out) and of course “SHUTTER ISLAND”!  Hooray!  Leo finally made a ghost movie.  Plus I like all of the other Dennis Lehane novels that have been turned into movies (“Gone Baby Gone” and “Mystic River”)  I’ll let you know how it turns out.

  • Is Moses Rolling in his Grave??

This is my absolutely favorite American Idol audition of all time! My husband and I still walk around singing “Let My PEO-PLE GOOOOOOO”. This guy had it goin on! The low voice! The vibrato! The out-of-date song choice! The earnest attempt! Gotta respect that.

  • Oh no she didn’t!

Ok, so the woman who assaulted Leo nearly five years ago has been caught:

First of all, she’s ugly!  What was SHE doing at a party with Leo?  If she could get in, then I certainly should be able to get in?

Secondly, after she assaulted Leo back in 2004, she FLED THE COUNTRY!  She fled the freakin country so she wouldn’t get arrested for assault????   Is that the dumbest thing you’ve ever heard or what?  Apparently, she was arrested in Toronto and extradited back to the US.  The judge ordered she must have no contact with DiCaprio or Rick Salomon, who hosted the party where the assault allegedly took place, in the early morning of June 17, 2005. She also had to hand over her passport and abide by an 11 p.m. curfew.

What an idiot!  At least she didn’t scar his beautiful face!
