  • Songs that bring me back

I’m sure you’ve heard people talking about songs that bring them back to a specific place and time in their life. Last night during pillow talk, Brian and I were discussing songs that bring us back and here’s the list I cam up with:

Freak Me – Silk: This isn’t really my type of song, however when I was 11 years old and in sixth grade, this song was a hit! The lyrics are somewhat graphic (at least for 1992) and I can remember singing it in the locker room while getting dressed for gym class. All the girls would chime in and we would sing it in harmony… how sweet huh?

Jennifer Paige – Crush: When I was 15, I was really into the show “Sabrina the Teeange Witch”. That shouldn’t come as a surprise based on my unabashed admiration of the wicca beliefs. Anyway, this song was featured on the show, and I fell in love with it! I would go around singing it all of the time, and I even bought the CD single. In fact, I still have it

Jimmy Ray – Are you Jimmy Ray?: This is the first one that I find kind of embarrassing. My sister probably remembers me walking around the house yelling at the top of my lungs “WHO WANTS TO KNOW… WHO WANTS TO KNOW?!?” In my defense, the song was a hit, so I must not have been the only one who liked it.

  • Hiatus

    Hello LabelLover fans:
I’m taking another break. Just need a few weeks (two or three) to regroup then I’ll be back and better than ever! Enjoy your spring!

  • Buried Alive

So I have a new fascination… hoarders!  There’s a new show on TLC about hoarders and how they live.  It’s really almost kind of sickening.  There are people on there who have YEARS worth of crap in their house.  It’s gotten so bad that they have to navigate through a little path of crap.
Last night Bri and I watched an episode, and I was shocked because the guy that they were featuring looked normal enough and it turns out he lives right in the town next to where I live!

So I’m freaked now because that guy could have been my neighbor!  I guess it just goes to show you never REALLY know what your neighbors are up to.  We can all assume we live with normal people right next door, or down the street, but how do we know?  I mean, the married couple that lives a few doors down could have swinger parties.  The single guy two floors above me could be a serial killer.  Yikes!  I guess it’s just best not to think about it…

  • Just call me Valentina!

So I finally got around to making my designer inspired Valentino Red t-shirts.  Here are the originals, and here are my versions:

    My Version:

The inspiration for the next shirt can only be found on the Valentino website.  But here’s my version:

So far, this is how much I’ve spent:

$8 on each Old Navy t shirt

    $12 on the lace

I already had all of the sewing materials.  Not bad!

  • A letter to smokers

This post is not meant to be disrespecting to smokers, I realize you have the right to smoke, and if you’re not worried about your health, then neither am I.  I also realize that cigarettes are addictive, and we all know I have my own addiction I’m fighting.
However, I do have a few questions for you…

    1.  I’m sure you realize that most non-smokers do not want to be around your smoking.  But do you care?  I feel like as long as you see an ash tray, you’ll light up.  We don’t like the smell, and we certainly don’t like that we’re breathing in your harmful second hand smoke.  Do you care that you are also affecting other people’s health when you light up?  Also, did you know that when your smoking in your car with your windows down that the smoke gets into MY car and I still can smell it?

    2.  Why do you throw your cigarette butts anywhere?  I realize it’s a pain to wait for a trash can, but that’s what I do when I have litter to get rid of.  Just the same as I would NEVER spit my gum out on a sidewalk, I would appreciate if you would wait for the proper receptacle to dispose of your butts.  There’s nothing that upsets me more than when I see someone throw a cigarette butt out of a car window.  So disrespectful!

    3.  Do you know that you really smell bad when you get back from a smoke break?  I mean, you smell like outside smoky sweat funk.  It’s pretty gross.  So all I ask is that you consider spraying yourself with a little perfume or cologne before returning to your desk at work.

These are just a few requests that I (and I’m sure many other non-smokers) would make.  If only one person reads this and decides to make a few changes, I would be appreciative!

  • There are more people like me! I’m NOT crazy!!

My husband and my sister have always been into forums.  Years ago, Brian liked this boxing forum called “New England Ringside”.  I couldn’t stand it because he was always on there posting stuff that I thought was absolutely stupid.  Eventually he got kicked off because he wrote some disparaging remarks about the owners and operators of the site (something about how their checks always bounced if I remember correctly).
My sister, on the other hand, is into parenting forums.  I have to be honest, I could not think of a more boring forum if I tried.  But occasionally she will have a funny post to tell me about (e.g., the bi-sexual mom who was looking for a “play date” with another mom).
For the most part, I always thought forums were on the boring side.  That is until I discovered THE PURSE FORUM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I cannot tell you how excited I am about this website.  I was always a loyal reader of the purse blog (even though I only agreed with their reviews about 50% of the time).  But now I have a place to post pics of my handbag collection (it’s fabulous!), discuss the newest trends (denim for spring), and answer the silliest questions ever (how old were you when you got your first designer bag?  has your bag ever been mistaken for a fake?  what’s your LEAST favorite handbag designer?).  I finally get what all of the excitement about forums is for!

  • Valentino on the cheap!

So you all may remember last year when I made some cute sweater mittens.  Well I have a similar project set up for this weekend.  I may or may not have shared this with you all, but my new favorite designer is Valentino.  I LOVE Valentino.  The stuff is genius and just my style;  feminine, light, and whimsical.  So this season, in his Valentino RED collection, there are some super cute tees that just don’t fit into my new non-spending money lifestyle.  They average about $195 – $300 each.  Check them out below:

So cute right?  So my idea is that I’m going to attempt to copy them DIY style.  I am super excited because my plan is to use a satin sash I already own, and go to JoAnn Fabrics and pick up some lace and tulle and make my own versions of these tees!  Yay!  I will definitely let you know how they turn out…

P.S.  There was a Marc Jacobs Angela hobo on sale at Neiman’s today (in white!!!) for $427 and I DIDN’T GET IT!  Hooray for me!

  • Back from Boston

So I hate flying.  I’ve always kind of hated it.  I got used to it back when I was flying alot (from Boston to New York and to D.C.) but then I stopped and my fear kicked back up again.  The turbulence gets me.  I know it’s just wind knocking the plane around, but for me, it’s still scary.
Usually I start to get nervous about 2 or 3 days before the flight.  I have to remind myself to calm down because I’m working myself up about an hour and a half long ordeal that’s 72 hours away.  This time was no different.  I started to get nervous last Wednesday, and by Friday night, I was a nervous wreck.  Although for my husband’s sake, I internalized most of it.
However, I was pleasantly surprised with our trip up to Boston on Saturday morning.  Bri and I met a really nice and interesting guy named Mike McCann.  Aside from his two teaching jobs (Yale and Vermont Law) he’s also the Legal Analyst for Sports Illustrated.  Our conversation with him really made the flight fly by (pun intended).
Once we were in Boston, it was par for the course.  The hotel we stayed in was an old favorite of mine (the first place I ever stayed the first time I went to Boston with my sis back in 2003).  The weather was typical Boston February weather, if not on the nice side.  I believe it got all the way up to the high 40s!  I saw an old friend or two.  And some great news is…. one of them is getting married!  Which means I get to attend an Indian wedding.  I’ve never done that before and I’m super excited!  I plan on wearing a sari and I would love to wear something like this:

I’m thrilled because I’ve always thought Indian clothing was the most beautiful cultural clothing out there.  Brian said he would even wear an Indian suit!!!

  • Phone Schmone

I’m not a HUGE technology person.  I mean, I do like some gadgets.  I have an iPod touch and an iPod nano, Brian and I own two laptops (one for each of us), I love my Kindle.  So I guess I like some stuff.  But when it comes to phones, I’m just not on the up and up.  I never ever use my phone (ok that’s a small exaggeration.  I use an average of 8 minutes a month).  I like to text, so FYI, either call my home phone or text me if you expect a response.  And definitely DON’T leave a message.  I usually check my voicemail about every two or three weeks.  Again, with the exception of my birthday

All that being said, I did get a new phone last night.  The poor guy working at Sprint tried to sell me the latest and greatest, but I said “look dude, I rarely talk on the phone, and I text with my husband sometimes, so those are all of the features I need.  But I do need for it to be pink.”  So I ended up with this beauty.  For free!!!!!!

  • Relapse

Feeling better today, but it’s because I bought something.  I’m ashamed and I’m sorry.  God this blog is becoming depressing, I guess it will stay that way until I kick this addiction of mine.  I want to thank Allison for her encouraging words.  I’m sorry if I disappointed you.  I’ve definitely disappointed myself.
